FAQ:
How often would I need to volunteer?
It is up to you how often you volunteer; however, we request a minimum of once per month. But why wouldn´t you want to join us more than that? Bringing education and entertainment to the preschoolers of our community is amusing and gratifying!
What time of day and How long are the volunteer shifts?
Most shifts are approximately 4 hours on weekday mornings or afternoons.
We do have opportunities for drop off and/or pick up, of the bus, that require less of a time commitment; as well as, some weekends and special event shifts.
Would i require a special license to drive the bus?
No! You would only need a Class 5 Driver´s License, with a clear Driving Abstract. We also require a Criminal Record Check and some training time with our Head Volunteer Driver or ORCA Bus Support Worker.
I am unable to commit very far out, could I still get on-board?
Yes! We would be happy to have you join as either a scheduled or on-call driver.
Where are the stops?
Our current stops are: Timberlane Park, Lang Creek Fish Hatchery, Sunset Park, Willingdon Beach, Larry Gouthro Park, and Townsite Mall; as well as, driving at Community Parades! Come and join the fun!
I am concerned about driving during the COVID-19 Pandemic, what safeguards are in place?
At this time, while driving to the stops, passengers are not allowed on board the bus. Once at the stop, only the driver and facilitator are permitted on board the bus to remove equipment and toys for use. All programming takes place outdoors. We are following COVID-19 cleaning and safety precautions as outlined by the BC Center of Disease Control. ORCA bus staff are responsible for all cleaning, you would not be required to do any cleaning or sanitizing. You can find out more about our protocols on our website.
